Books: Kangaroo’s Comments & Wallaby’s Words, the Aussie Word Book.
Helen’s writing about the Australian language or Aussie- English began with this book after meeting her Aussie husband. It was first published with illustrations by our friend, the talented John Colquhoun in 1988, the year the World Expo was in Brisbane, Australia, and her first child was born. It is a light-hearted look at how Aussie-English was formed differently than American English. Helen re-edited the book with travel information and new phrases 10 years later, in time for the Sydney Summer Olympics in 2000. Both books are a fun read. Buy now

John Colquhoun is an amazing illustrator with a comic sense of humor. His drawings brought life to the colorful Aussie sayings. – Helen

This book contained some of the glossary from “Kangaroo’s” but it also took you by the hand to travel around Australia based on your interests: The Outback, beaches, sports, cities…
This title was published in the early 90′s so not all of the travel info is up-to-date anymore. But the general descriptions of where to go and what to do are accurate.
Helen says: I still love the cover illustration which was John’s view of my then two-child traveling family.
